چکیده

AbstractIn spite of their non-isotropic nature, local growths based on 4-connected or 8-connected neighborhoods are frequently used for binary image dilation, mostly because they are very easy to implement. Altough better dilation techniques exist, they usually require bigger masks, more complex routines, exotical grid definitions or globally processing the image. In this article we propose a new 3x3 implementation of the hexadecagonal model for a better aproximation of isotropic growth on a square grid that doesn’t have the problems of its traditional incarnations.

Distance transforms: Academics versus industry

In image and video analysis, distance transformations (DT) are frequently used. They provide a distance image (DI) of background pixels to the nearest object pixel. DT touches upon the core of many applications; consequently, not only science but also industry has conducted a significant body of work in this field. However, in a vast majority of the cases this has not been published in major sc...

Evaluating the environmental performance of the growing media in a green wall system in a dry climate region

Application of green walls still has not attracted interest among the contractors and people, and this can be due to poor growing performance of the plants on these systems. This study investigated the effect of four growing media types (30% cocopeat + 65% perlite + 5% vermicompost, 30% soil + 65% perlite + 5% vermicompost, 30% mushroom compost + 65% perlite + 5% vermicompost and regular soil a...

Spatial variability of forest growing stock using geostatistics in the Caspian region of Iran

Estimating the amount of variation due to spatial dependence at different scales provides a basis for designing effective experiments. Accurate knowledge of spatial structures is needed to inform silvicultural guidelines and management decisions for long term sustainability of forests. Furthermore, geostatistics is a useful tool to describe and draw map the spatial variability and estimation o...

Determining suitable time for exploitation/ grazing of rangeland plants using growing degree days (GDD) model

One of the key principles in rangeland management is determination of suitable times for exploitation and grazing of rangeland plants in summer and winter pasturelands. This determination of time not only prevents degradation of plant species, but also leads to optimal usage of plant yield. Multiple factors affect plant phenology among which temperature regime has the highest effect on plant de...

Multi-Dimensional Image Segmentation Using Seed- Invariant Region Growing

The goal of image segmentation is to partition a digital image into disjoint regions of interest. Of the many proposed image-segmentation methods, region growing has been one of the most popular. Research on region growing, however, has focused primarily on the design of feature measures and on growing and merging criteria. Most of these methods have an inherent dependence on the order in which...
